There are eight counties in Connecticut: Fairfield, Hartford, Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven, New London, Tolland and Windham. The counties and the cities and towns within them vary in geographical size, size of population and wealth, among other variables; however, due to the proximity of the municipalities to one another, and based on the likelihood that residents will work close to home, counties make appropriate "apples to apples" comparison groups when it comes to labor data.
